Dr. Susan Canizares

Susan Canizares, Ph.D., is Chief Academic Officer of Learning Care Group, one of the largest multi-state private early care and education providers in the United States, serving children aged birth through 5 and their families. She is responsible for the educational programming, professional development, and quality improvement initiatives for the company’s five premier brands: Childtime, TutorTime, Children’s Courtyard, La Petite Academy, and Montessori Unlimited, including the attainment of national accreditations and the participation in state QRIS programs.

Canizares earned her Ph.D. in language and literacy development from Fordham University and a master’s degree in special education, specializing in Early Childhood, from New York University. Her background includes experience as a center director for an early education and after school center, as well as teaching special education in the New York City Public School system. Canizares has authored more than 100 nonfiction photographic titles for beginning readers, as well as co-authoring early childhood curriculums, Building Language for Literacy program (with Dr. Susan B. Neuman and Dr. Catherine Snow) and The Early Childhood Workshop (with Cathy Collins Block and Ellen Booth Church). As a noted authority on early childhood education and a recognized leader in educational publishing and professional development, Canizares is a frequent speaker and presenter at national and regional educational conferences.

Canizares is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and currently serves as Vice President on the Board of ECEC (Early Care and Education Consortium), the leading voice for providers and service organizations dedicated to high quality care and education and the needs of our dual generation workforce.
